Richard Chaplin

Managing Director

Richard began his career in the health club industry after graduating with a degree and masters. After owning a number of large health and fitness clubs he got an appetite for property. Richard developed a website facilitating the private sale of homes, giving him a formidable understanding of the UK property market.

He was a Director for a property brokerage company and following this Co-Founder / Director of super-prime property developer Ypres Rose Developments. YRD completed five £10m+ luxury house developments in St. George’s Hill, Weybridge and the Wentworth Golf Estate, as well as other smaller developments, generating a Gross Development Value of over £60 million. Richard then went on to work with a London based furnishing company during its infancy.

Outside of work, Rich’s passion is first and foremost his family, then with any spare time you will see him on his road bike around Staffordshire.

Polly Haley

Founder & Director

After graduating from university, Polly took her first steps into the property sector as a photographer at one of London’s leading estate agents. It was here that she met her co-founder and business partner, Heidi. Interiors have always been Polly’s passion and whilst working she chose to study Interior Design at the Chelsea College of Arts to develop her skills and understanding.

In 2004 Polly and Heidi ventured into the entrepreneurial world and set up Milc. Over the past 12 years they have developed Milc from a ‘2-man’ organisation into the successful award winning business it has become today. Milc proudly joined the David Phillips Group in 2015.

Polly is happily married and a proud mother to her two sons Jude and Alfie. Her house is an ongoing project and at the weekends Polly can usually be found hunting for treasures at local flea markets and antique shops.

Heidi Clark Vasquez

Founder & Director

Heidi studied Architecture at University and during this time worked for world renowned architects Foster and Partners. She developed a keen interest in interior design and took a break in her studies to become an architect to work for one of London’s top estate agents as a photographer. There she met co-founder Polly Haley. Together they established Milc, a successful award winning design business which has recently celebrated its 12 year anniversary. Milc proudly became part of the David Phillips Group in 2015.

Heidi’s other passion is dance; she danced for a London based dance company and studied at the prestigious Broadway Dance Centre in New York. She frequently travels between London and New York, always looking for inspiring interiors and new trends. Heidi also loves to take time out to relax with a glass of red wine and a delicious cheese board with friends.

Poppy Peace

Design Director

As Design Director Poppy oversees all elements of the design process, ensuring the team achieve exceptional results on every project. Over the years she has developed superb client and supplier relationships. 

After completing her degree in Furniture and Product Design, Poppy joined the luxury homewares and interiors retailer, Mufti. It was there that she gained invaluable knowledge of the furnishings trade, designing furniture and product ranges and keeping abreast of market trends. With her passion for interior styling, it was a natural step for Poppy to join Milc in 2009.

With a love of all things sushi, when Poppy is not helping family and friends with their styling woes she can often be found with chop sticks in hand trialling the latest sushi joints in and around London. Her must have great escape once a year is to Europe’s snowy mountains for snowboarding and mulled wine.

 

Alison Clorley

Director

Since joining the company in 2010 Alison has been integral to the growth of Milc. She has excellent all-round knowledge, but her main focus is design, procurement and product. She has worked on numerous multi-unit and prime developments as well as helping Milc win a number of awards. 

After completing her degree in Architecture, Alison went on to work for Make Architects, assisting in the residential fit out of the Cube development. This was followed by a character building stint travelling Asia and Central America.

Alison has the sweetest tooth in the office. Never to be found far from the biscuit tin she instigated the Milc team bake-off and set the standard with her lemon poppy seed cake. Her spare time is spent silk screen printing, running, swimming, and sourcing mid-century modern furniture for her Stoke Newington flat.

Kristina Bendixen

Operations Director

Born in Denmark, Kristina moved to England in 2010. As Operations Director, she is integral to the day to day running of the company, keeping the Milc team on their toes and ensuring things run like clockwork. She has also built up great client relationships and our returning clients have got to know her very well. A talented linguist and writer, Kristina speaks 5 languages and is always on the lookout for a new turn of phrase to add to her repertoire.

Kristina is a huge sports fan, with a particular love of football and the Danish national sport of handball. As a runner and player of competitive sports, she makes a fearful opponent at the ping pong table, particularly when armed with her lucky paddle. She’s introduced the Milc team to the wonders of Danish sweets and baking, including the world’s premier varieties of Haribo and liquorice. Kristina often visits home to see her friends and family but loves to travel. 

 

 

Sylwia Lubian

Senior Interior Designer

Sylwia graduated from London Metropolitan University with a First-class degree in Interior Design and Technology. She then went on to gain an MA with distinction in Interior Design from the University of Westminster before starting an internship at Shaun Clarkson Interior Design. She then joined Catherine Wilman Interiors in Chelsea. During her 4 years there she was inspired to focus on residential design which naturally led her to joining the Milc team as Senior Interior Designer. Sylwia’s project management and procurement knowledge is a great addition to the dynamic Milc team.

Sylwia loves spending time with her little French Bulldog and is always on the hunt for beautiful things so can be found at flea markets regularly. She loves London for its creativity and exhibitions, her favorite galleries are the V&A or the Tate Modern. She dreams of one day travelling the world and climbing Mont Blanc on her birthday.

Alice Milnes

Interior Designer

Alice has both a BA and MA in Textile Design, from Leeds and Chelsea College of Art and Design respectively. During her studies she always had a focus towards interiors. After studying, she worked for a high street retailer in their homeware department and then joined our sister company David Phillips. When Milc joined the David Phillips Group in 2015 we soon discovered that Alice’s talents would be perfect for us and so she joined our team.

As well as interiors and design, Alice loves any kind of adventure. She likes to travel the world, but particularly backpacking it. A history buff at heart, Alice also spends her weekends visiting museums, with the British Museum being her favorite. She also loves to brunch with friends on a Sunday.

Lindsey Clarke

Design Manager

After completing a BA in Law Lindsey went on to study Interior Design at Dublin Institute of Design. Whilst studying she worked for an Interior Designer part time as well as completing an internship at McQuillen Architects.

Lindsey went travelling for 7 months which eventually led her to uproot and move to London soon after she returned. Since joining Milc in 2012 Lindsey has worked on numerous projects and has become a great addition to the team. She loves to challenge her design skills on every project and always does so with a big smile on her face.

Lindsey enjoys an active lifestyle and attends regular yoga classes. She also enjoys exploring London and finding new things to do. In between going back to the emerald Isle to see family and friends Lindsey enjoys popping down to the South of Spain to relax on the beach with a cocktail.

Eloise James

Designer

After completing a degree in Printed Textile Design at Brighton University, Eloise became passionate about interiors. She interned at Living etc Magazine and then started her career as a freelance Interior Stylist Assistant, working on photo shoots for national publications and furniture retailers. Eloise then joined a small interior design studio in Chelsea where she worked for 4 years before joining Milc.

She loves searching for anything interior related and can usually be found at an antiques fair, car boot sale or treasure hunting in charity shops. Eloise also loves going to new restaurants where she gets inspiration for her cooking. She loves to host dinner parties which are always followed by a good game of Articulate!

Alexandra Laird

Designer

Alexandra, also known as ‘Ally’, originally joined Milc as a freelancer in 2014 whilst completing her studies at the KLC School of Design. The experience that she gained working alongside the stylists made her a natural choice to join the expanding design team. In her time with the company, Ally has already worked on several large projects, achieving great results and establishing strong client relationships.

A keen foodie, Ally is always in the know about the ever-changing London restaurant scene, and she enjoys spending her weekends brunching with friends and discovering new London hotspots. Her humorous comments and contagious laughter are appreciated by everyone in the office, and her karaoke performances would give even Mariah a run for her a money. With roots in Australia and Mexico, Ally is a keen traveller, who loves the discovery of new places and a glass of cold rose along with a sunset.

Freya Reed

Designer

After completing a degree in Printed Textile Design at Chelsea College of Arts, Freya went on to work under the head stylist at Knightsbridge based Louise Bradley Interiors. This is where her love for interior design developed.  She is also part of a textile collective known as ‘Modern Folk’ who showcase at festivals and local London events. Freya loves to take photos of street art and interesting architecture which she posts regularly on Instagram.

She loves solo backpacking around the world and her favorite country to date is Cambodia where she learnt to dive. Her ambition is to visit every continent at least once. If she’s not travelling she is usually doing hot yoga somewhere or eating her favorite Japanese food. She is our resident vegetarian and is often wondering around local food markets to find weird and wonderful ingredients to cook with.

 

Hannah Farley

Stylist

Hannah graduated from Central Saint Martins with a degree in Knitted Interior Textiles before starting her career as a freelance designer for both One Fine Stay and Homewings. Fabrics are really important to Hannah, she believes the right collection of soft furnishings really make a room. Her love for interior fabrics all started when she visited Rajasthan in India. The colours, patterns and prints were so beautiful she realised that she wanted to be in an industry where she was surrounded by all these things on a daily basis, she had found her calling.

Hannah has a passion for travelling, she will take any opportunity to travel to new places so that she can immerse herself in all types of interior design, soaking up inspiration from around the world.  If she’s not spending time with friends then she’ll usually be found at home scrolling through Pinterest searching the next interior trends and getting inspiration for her styling!

Bret Pikalev

Stock Manager

Bret, also known as ‘Betti’ moved to England from Estonia 6 years ago after she fell in love with the country. She has always worked in admin and specifically likes dealing with data and focusing on details. She joined Milc in 2015 as part of the stock team and is now Stock Manager.

She is a fitness enthusiast with a soft spot for outdoor boot camps, insanity and chocolate. Everything is apparently better with chocolate according to Betti.

When she is not overseeing Milc stock or knocking out 2-hour fitness sessions she is busy planning her travelling adventures. She loves to visit new countries around the world but also has a passion for exploring England. She loves to get out of the hustle and bustle of London, taking day trips to the beach or visiting country parks with friends. As much as she loves England she still believes Estonian cuisine is the best.

Chloe Hilaire

Office Manager

At the Milc office no two days are ever the same. Chloe, our Office Manager, does a fine job of ensuring everything keeps ticking over nicely. Always with a smile on her face from the moment she walks into the office, nothing is ever too much.

She’s extremely well organised and truly is the backbone of the office. The team joke that she has a stationary collection to rival Ryman’s!

Chloe has a degree in Makeup for Fashion from London College of Fashion, and is also a qualified makeup artist. She has a love for design but particularly anything vintage. She has an amazing collection of antique tea cups and loves to find unusual items in vintage shops. Chloe also has a passion for horse riding and has her own horse called Sid.  

David Storey

Warehouse Manager

David joined Milc after 13 years building his career in warehousing and distribution at the largest privately owned furniture retailer in the UK. He was the youngest Distribution Manager in the company's history and was responsible for improving performance at a number of stores, including their flagship branch. David is responsible for the day to day running of our warehouse and the continuous improvement of Milc’s distribution function.

David is an avid sports fan, particularly cricket, cycling and American football, and enjoys attending sporting events, concerts and festivals.

Matteo Stopiglia

Warehouse Assistant

Matteo, our resident Italian, joined the Milc team when he first came to live in England. He brought with him an abundance of warehouse experience and hit the ground running. He’s Dave’s right-hand man in the Milc warehouse and together they run a tight ship.

He loves living in East London and spends his weekends exploring all the new and exciting places that are constantly popping up. He misses Italy sometimes, but who can blame him! Matteo says the world is a big place and that he never knows what the future will bring or where he will end up.

Matteo has a passion for cycling and also likes football. He loves to travel the world and is always planning his next trip.
